Bringing My Brother's Killers to Justice
Author: Dennis M. Walsh
Category: True Crime
In the vein of The Boondock Saints and Chinatown comes this true crime memoir of brotherly love and vengeance In 2003, Christopher Walsh was found stuffed in a trash barrel in a storage locker in Van Nuys, California. After the dilatory murder investigation took seven months to file charges, and years to go to trial, Dennis Walsh knew it was up to him to keep his little brother's murder from becoming a cold case. The only son of a large Irish-American family to stay on the straight and narrow, Dennis found his family's dubious background paired with his law degree placed him in the unique position to finish the job the cops couldn't. Fencing with the police and the DA's office, Dennis spent years slinking between his life as a stand-up lawyer and hitting the streets to try and convince the dopers, thieves, prostitutes, porn stars, and jail birds that populated Christopher's world to come forward and cooperate with the police. Yet he walked a fine line with his harsh tactics; prosecutors continuously told him he was jeopardizing not only the case, but his life. Staying on the right side of the law to hunt down these murderers put every part of Dennis to the test and it wasn't long before the brother who went clean knew he'd have to get his hands dirty. But 100 arrests later, the murderers are in jail for life. With the gravity of a Scorsese film, this classic yet gritty tale transcends the true crime genre. Nobody Walks is the harrowing story of a family, brothers, and the true meaning of justice.

Murderers, Psychopaths, and Paedophiles - Their mention strikes dread and disgust into the heart of a nation, and the crimes committed by such individuals are of a nature more horrendous than any other. Their hideous acts of violence and abuse are unimaginably cruel, and the more disturbed and desperate we become for the killers to be brought to justice.Yet the extremely calculated nature of the crimes and their perpetrators means that evidence is often so thin on the ground that many cases end up being often left 'open' with little hope that more evidence will come to light, leaving families in utter devastation and the public in fear of its safety. However, thanks to rapidly developing advances in forensic techniques, especially in the fields of psychological, psychic and DNA profiling, more and more previously closed cases are being re-examined and solved many years after the crimes were committed."Killer Catchers" is the incredible collection of such astonishing true stories. The murders in this book will chill you to the bone, but the techniques used to solve them will astound and reassure you in equal measure. The stories in this book are fascinating and varied but they all have one thing in common: each murderer thought they would get away with their horrific crime, and almost nearly did...But now there is no such thing as the perfect murder.

Restorative Justice and Death Row Families

The press called Martin's actions a "crime spree." Already convicted of armed robbery, Martin was facing the death penalty. In less than two weeks the jury would decide his fate. Terrified that his son would be sentenced to die, Phillip did the only thing he felt he could do: in an act of faith and desperation in his garage with the car exhaust running, Phillip made the consummate sacrifice to spare his son the ultimate punishment. Ironically, his suicide presented Martin's with another chance at life; the jury, moved by Martin's loss, spared his life. Phillip's story-like those of the other parents, siblings, children, and cousins chronicled in this book-vividly illustrates the precarious position family members of capital offenders occupy in the criminal justice system. At once outsiders and victims, they live in the shadow of death, crushed by trauma, grief, and helplessness. In this penetrating account of guilt and innocence, shame and triumph, devastating loss and ultimate redemption, the voices of these family members add a new dimension to debates about capital punishment and how communities can prevent and address crime. Restorative justice theory, which views violent crime as an extreme violation of relationships; searches for ways to hold offenders accountable; and meets the needs of victims and communities torn apart by the crime, organizes these narratives and integrates offenders' families into the process of transforming conflict and promoting justice and healing for all. What emerges from hundreds of hours' worth of in-depth interviews with family members of offenders and victims, legal teams, and leaders in the abolition and restorative justice movements is a vision of justice strongly rooted in the social fabric of communities. Showing that forgiveness and recovery are possible in the wake of even the most heinous crimes, while holding victims' stories sacred, this eye-opening book bridges the pain of living in the shadow of death with the possibility of a reparative form of justice. Anyone working with victims, offenders, and their families-from lawyers and social workers to mediators and activists-will find this riveting work indispensable to their efforts.

A Sister’s Story of Heartbreak and Love for the Brother she Lost
Author: Brooke Kinsella
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Category: Biography & Autobiography
At 2.30 in the morning of 29 June 2008, Broke Kinsella received a phone call. It was her sister Jade, telling her that their beloved brother Ben had been stabbed while out celebrating finishing his GCSEs. The Kinsella family's shock soon turned to grief when Ben lost his fight for life later that day, surrounded by those who love him. Too upset at the time to speak about Ben's senseless murder, and with Ben's killers now convicted and behind bars, the former East Enders actress is able to reveal her full story in this heartbreaking and beautifully written memoir that celebrates the life of a young man whose future was so cruelly stolen from him. Beginning with Ben's death an ending with the aftermath of the trial of his killers, the book is an extremely personal and powerful portrait of loss in the age of knife crime. From their first Christmas without Ben to facing the accused in court for the first time, Brooke writes in detail about the devastation that was caused in one night and which has changed her and her family's life forever. It is a powerfully moving and brave exploration of grief.

A History of the Borden Murders
Author: Edwin H. Porter
Publisher: The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd.
Lizzie Borden [1860-1927] was tried and acquitted for the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Speculation continues today about the sensational case that produced a famous nursery rhyme. Although she was acquitted, no one else was ever charged with the murders, and Borden lived out her life in Fall River. Compiled immediately after Borden's sensational trial, the author aims to provide "a connected story of the whole case, commencing with the day of the tragedy and ending with the day that Miss Borden was set free." He touches on such topics as the discovery of the murders, the adjournment of the preliminary hearing and some the many theories that were advanced before any arrests were made. The book is handsomely illustrated with photos and line illustrations of the deceased, the accused, the jury and others. The author describes the book as: "A Plain Statement of the Material Facts Pertaining to the Most Famous Crime of the Century, Including the Story of the Arrest and Preliminary Trial of Miss LIZZIE A. BORDEN and a Full Report of the Superior Court Trial, With a Hitherto Unpublished Account of the Renowned Trickey-McHenry Affair Compiled from Official Sources and Profusely Illustrated with Original Engravings." Edwin H. Porter [1864-1904] was the Police Reporter for the Fall River Daily Globe and a correspondent for the Boston Herald. Accounts that he was paid to leave town and disappear after the book was published are incorrect. He continued as a reporter and was still employed by the Globe when he died of tuberculosis at age thirty-nine.
